A new non-profit organization has been formed to help provide facilities and funding for sports in Columbus, Nebraska.

There is a need for additional sports facilities in Columbus, and a new local non-profit has been created to tackle that issue. A group of local volunteers has come together to form the Columbus Sports Foundation as a way to raise funds for a new indoor sports facility. This facility will feature both artificial turf and hard courts indoors, and a couple of fields and courts outdoors as well. The new facility will be available to the general public and will host a wide variety of sports leagues, tournaments, camps and clinics, and will also be available for local schools and youth club sports teams for their practices and training.

The foundation held its initial meeting of the board of directors on November 25th, and filed its articles of incorporation with the State of Nebraska on November 27th. At this time, the foundation is securing its 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service and other required documents at the state level. Once all of the initial setup work is complete, the foundation will begin taking contributions towards its capital campaign for the new facility complex.

Once built, the new complex will be self-sufficient, with the operating expenses of the facility paid for by the revenue generated by the sports programming offered at the facility. Additional revenue that is raised above and beyond what is needed to operate the complex will be used to establish and maintain a sports scholarship fund to be used throughout the community.
